AlumKnights® Scholarship Information

The Del Norte HS Alumni Association announces scholarship awards of $1,000 to nine students in the class of 2019 and one incentive nursing scholarship in the amount of $10,000 – a total of $19,000.

Students receiving the $1,000 Drawbridge to Success Scholarship must attend a New Mexico two or four year college. One of the 2019 scholarships honors long-time Del Norte teacher, coach and administrator Frank Love. Recipients are: Brenda Soto Saavedra, Zarafshan Popal, Matthew Romero, Monalisa Garcia, Lauren Dao, Mariam Hameed, and Christian Portillo.

The $1,000 Skilled Trades Scholarship is for students studying for trade careers including plumber, electrician, auto mechanic, cosmetology, and culinary. They are Joshua Maddox and Austin Brown.

The recipient of the Dianne Riley Erickson Nursing Scholarship is Lizbeth Rios. In college year one, the student receives $1,000 followed by increasing amounts in college years two, three and four. The scholarship honors 1966 graduate Dianne Riley Erickson who worked as a nurse at numerous area hospitals.

2019 AlumKnights Scholarship Recipients

Since 2013 the AlumKnights have awarded some $30,000 in Drawbridge and Skilled Trades Scholarships and another $60,000 in the Erickson Nursing scholarships. Scholarship funds come through individual contributions, restaurant fundraisers, the sale of engraved brick pavers, the annual alumni Ballet Folklorico performance and donations from class reunions.

The AlumKnights® Scholarships include:

AlumKnights® Drawbridge to Success Scholarship

  • Purpose:
    The Drawbridge to Success Scholarship provides one year of support to graduating seniors who are interested in pursuing postsecondary education at a New Mexico institution of higher education and are able to demonstrate an extensive record of service, as exemplified by their participation in both school-based and community-based activities.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA
    • Must be graduating in May 2019 from Del Norte High School
    • Must be attending a public two- or four-year institution of higher education in New Mexico in Fall 2019

AlumKnights® Skilled Trades Scholarship

  • Purpose:
    The Skilled Trades Scholarship provides one year of support to graduating seniors who are interested in pursuing a career-oriented, technical, or vocational program of study at a community college or trade school and are a able to demonstrate a commitment to working in a relevant career field.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA or better
    • Must be graduating in May 2019 from Del Norte High School
    • Must be accepted to a career/technical/vocational program in a New Mexico community college or a trade/vocational school in Fall 2019.

AlumKnights® Dianne Riley Erickson Nursing Scholarship

  • Purpose:
    The Dianne Riley Erickson Nursing Scholarship provides up to four years of support to graduating seniors who are interested in pursuing a four-year postsecondary degree in Nursing anywhere in the United States and are able to demonstrate an exemplary record of service, academic achievement, and commitment to the Nursing profession.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Must have a cumulative high school weighted GPA of 2.5 or above and an average weighted GPA of 3.0 or above for the final two years of high school
    • Must be graduating in May 2019 from Del Norte High School
    • Must be attending an accredited public or private two- or four-year institution of higher education in the United States in Fall 2019
    • Must be pursuing a four-year degree in Nursing (students may start with a two-year degree program, but the ultimate goal should be a four-year degree)

Selection Process

Applications are evaluated in March to determine the rating/ranking of applicants based on selection criteria developed by the AlumKnights Student Support Committee. Students who submit the proper application material and are selected through a preliminary selection review will be invited to participate in a formal interview with members of the AlumKnights Student Support Committee. The final awardee(s) are normally notified by the end of March.

AlumKnights® Scholarship Recipients

The Nursing Scholarship provides $1,000 in the first year and increasing amounts in years 2-4 if they continue pursuing their nursing degree. All are graduating seniors from Del Norte High School with a history of service to their school and community. More information to come.
