Community Forum – Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

Event Details

APS invites you to attend a Community Forum at Del Norte to have an open discussion on the Every Student Succeeds Act. You have the opportunity to provide your opinions and ideas into the formation of the local and state plan. The first Forum will be held in the Del Norte Library on Tuesday, Oct 4 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

Background

The federal government reauthorized what was formerly known as the No Child Left Behind Act to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). With its reauthorization, we have the unique opportunity to influence our New Mexico state and local plan. Each state has to submit a plan to the federal government by spring 2017 that demonstrates how it will implement ESSA based upon authentic stakeholder input. The APS Board of Education and I have joined districts across the state to gather input directly from schools and community by hosting our own focus groups. Districts will hold focus groups with teachers and administrators, students, parents and families, and business and community members. Input from all districts then will be synthesized into a statewide document that will be submitted to the New Mexico Public Education Department and Secretary Skandera to consider for the New Mexico ESSA plan.
