Some 24 Del Norte High School students representing four countries (US, Mexico, Afghanistan, Central Africa) learned soccer skills at the New Mexico United Camp held July 17-19, 2023 at the DNHS soccer field in Albuquerque, NM. A contribution from the AlumKnights helped cover the cost of the Camp. This was a unique opportunity for the students to improve their skills and learn from former UNM soccer player Junro Narito who leads the United Youth Academy.
The DN Boys Soccer season begins in late August and goes through October. The 2023 Knights soccer head coach is Clay Szenasi who is also a DNHS counselor; JV coach is Luis Sanchez-Martinez, a 2016 DNHS graduate.
“New Mexico United is an American professional soccer team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 2018, the team currently plays in the USL Championship, the second division of American soccer. Our mission is to bring New Mexicans together in ways that they’ve never been brought together before. We aim to create positive outcomes for our entire state and it’s people.”
