Del Norte High School 2023 graduate Calvin “Badger” Waquie’s Cross Country team won the 2023 Continental Athletic Conference championship on Friday, November 3, 2023. Calvin runs on the Haskell Indian Nations University Men’s Cross Country team who took the conference championship with five of the top eight finishers on its home Billy Mills Course in Lawrence, Kansas. Haskell Indian Nations tallied 22 points to outdistance College of the Ozarks (Missouri), 51 points; Florida National University, 81 points; Florida College, 86 points; Penn State Schuylkill, 142 points; and Washington Adventist University of Maryland, 168 points.
Calvin, a member of Jemez Pueblo, ran for Del Norte HS on the Cross Country team and was a member of the Del Norte Varsity Boys Baseball team.
Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU) is the premiere tribal university in the United States, offering quality education to Native American students. Haskell’s student population averages about 1000 per semester, and all students are members of federally recognized tribes.
