Del Norte student Samuel Cochran was honored during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 as a recipient of a $1,000 MLK scholarship sponsored by The Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Council. The scholarship program is intended for the recipients to continue to learn, understand and “promote Dr. King’s legacy on an ongoing basis.” In an excerpt from his essay on civil rights, diversity and community pride, Samuel states: “Dr. King has inspired me as a Christian, and as a citizen, to try to be as good and compassionate a person as I can be and to stand up for what is right.”
