Melanie Brionze, a 2004 Del Norte Alumni, is the coach of the Albuquerque Kings wheelchair basketball team. The Kings are a championship-level member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. Melanie was featured in the article “Kings are happy to play at home for a change” in the Albuquerque Journal.
Melanie, a recipient of the George J. Maloof sports scholarship, was all-district in basketball and volleyball and a state qualifier in tennis while at Del Norte. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and Ballet Folklorico, a dance group that celebrates cultural diversity. During high school, Melanie volunteered her time in community service with groups such as Special Olympics and the Susan B. Komen breast cancer research. She also played basketball at NMSU.
